While many of us in Perth stopped work for a Christmas break and took respite from the scorching heat over Australia Day, the new headquarters for the Western Australian Institute for Medical Research within the QEII redevelopment has been showing steady progress.

The slabs for the ground floor to level 2 are now complete on the Nedlands site. Level 2 will include a large seminar room, laboratories and consulting rooms. The level 3 slab is now nearing completion and the construction of columns from level 3 to level 4 is underway.

The main lift shaft and the goods lift shaft have both been poured to level 5 and jumped ready for steel.

"The next step is to complete the third level floor slab," said WAIMR's Project Director, Trevor Dunn. "We're still on target to have this ten storey building finished in the middle of 2013."

In an exciting development, construction will be starting shortly on another WAIMR research facility, to be located at the Fiona Stanley hospital site in Murdoch.

Stay tuned for updates!
