WA Node of the Australian Phenomics Network

Background

The Australian Phenomics Network (APN) was established in 2007 as part of the Government's National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) with contributions from state governments, research institutions and the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). The aim of the APN is to expand the availability of validated mouse models of disease to all Australian Researchers.

RNA Interference Capability

This year a new RNAi capability was added to the network to provide a pipeline to identify and validate genes involved in specific biological processes (eg cell growth differentiation, death; metastases; drug resistance or susceptibility) and to use the gene/s identified to create relevant mouse models to study the phenotype/disease. The facilities available include:

  • Whole genome shRNA screening available at WAIMR, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and QIMR
  • High throughput siRNA screening available through the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre
  • Production of ES (mouse) cells with shRNA gene knockdown generated at WEHI

The WAIMR node is currently being established at the WAIMR Royal Perth Hospital campus and will be fully operational by September 2010. If you would like to begin planning an shRNA genome wide screen or would like any information on the WA node or any of the APN services please contact:
